Why has support for 2STP ended?
I have recently started a job at Apple.
As a general policy, Apple employees are not permitted to maintain apps in the App Store.
Accordingly, 2STP Authenticator and 2STP Companion have been removed from the iOS and Mac App Stores, respectively, as of September 28th, 2017.This means that 2STP Authenticator will no longer be available for download if you did not download it prior to its removal. 2STP Companion may still be downloaded here.
The apps will continue working for the foreseeable future, but no further updates are planned.

Can I still use the apps I have installed?
Yes. The apps will continue to function as they did before if you installed them prior to their removal.
Though significant effort was made to futureproof 2STP, there is no guarantee that the apps will not break with future operating system updates. No support or updates will be provided if that becomes the case.

I have previously installed 2STP Authenticator. Can I reinstall it, or install it on a new device?
Yes. As long as you have downloaded 2STP Authenticator at least once, you can continue to re-download the final version on any device that is signed into the App Store with the same Apple ID used for the initial download.
To do so, you should re-download the app from the Purchased section of the App Store. Please note that 2STP will not show up in App Store search results.
To re-download 2STP Authenticator on iOS 11:
Open the App Store
Tap the avatar displayed in the top right of the screen
Tap Purchased
If Family Sharing is enabled, tap the user that previously downloaded 2STP
Search for "2STP" and tap the download button
To re-download 2STP Authenticator on iOS 10 or lower:
Open the App Store
Tap the Updates tab
Tap Purchased
If Family Sharing is enabled, tap the user that previously downloaded 2STP
Pull down to reveal the search bar
Search for "2STP" and tap the download button

Will 2STP iCloud Sync still work?
Yes. 2STP iCloud Sync does not depend on any external servers and instead communicates directly with iCloud, so it should be unaffected by 2STP's removal from the App Store.
As with the rest of the app, there is no guarantee that 2STP iCloud Sync will not break with future operating system updates. No support or updates will be provided if that becomes the case.
-
Can I download 2STP Companion for my Mac even if I haven't done so before?
Yes. You can download the final version of 2STP Companion here.
Like before, 2STP Companion only works if 2STP Authenticator has been installed and 2STP iCloud Sync has been enabled. It will not work as a standalone app.
See the 2STP Companion FAQ for instructions on how to verify the downloaded file is genuine.
Please note this version remains unsupported and will not be maintained or updated.

Can I migrate my account data to another authenticator app?
Yes. You can use the Export QR Codes feature to quickly migrate your account data to another app.
Tap More > Export Accounts > More Export Options > Export QR Codes. Then, swipe left and right to display the QR Code for each of your accounts.
If you have access to two iOS devices, it is easiest to use one device to display the QR Codes and another to scan them.
Otherwise, you may want to export each QR Code to an image to display on a different device, like on a computer. To do this, tap the Share button in the bottom right and choose a destination. We recommend using AirDrop to send each image to a nearby Mac.
Alternatively, a former user has created a script that can help automate this process, available on GitHub. Please note that is a third-party tool, and any questions regarding its use or functionality should be directed to its author.
-
What is the file format used by the Export Accounts feature?
The file generated by the Export Accounts feature is an encrypted archive.
Specifically, the account data is first archived with NSKeyedArchiver with a binary output format. Then, the resulting archived data is fed into RNCryptor along with the user-provided passcode.
More details of the precise format and instructions on how to decode it can be found here.

Will 2STP be made open source?
There are no plans to do so at this time.
